Customers, dealers, and partners of a major OEM required easy access to clear, consistent maintenance schedules for their vehicles. Previously, schedules existed only as unstructured PDFs of owner's manuals and 3rd party databases, leading to inconsistencies and difficulties in accessing authoritative data. Our client needed a single, trustworthy voice to apply across multiple channels.
Approach
PRES Innovation established a business case and goals by analyzing website traffic and search engine demand for maintenance schedules. We reviewed available 3rd party data offerings, finding them inadequate and cost-prohibitive, reinforcing the need for a bespoke solution. We designed a system with maintenance schedule authoring tools to become the primary repository, ensuring data quality and consistency. Rapid prototyping evolved our data model, encompassing thousands of vehicle variants over 20 model years. Flexibility, efficiency, and ease of use were prioritized in both internal and customer-facing applications.
Solution
We delivered an owner-friendly, VIN-specific Digital Maintenance Schedule System (DMSS) that personalizes service visit contents and timing based on driving habits and vehicle configuration. Robust authoring tools ensure ease-of-use and data quality. The self-assembled nature of each new model year's maintenance schedule, based on commonality with similar vehicles, minimizes manual data entry. Each VIN maps to a filtered maintenance schedule, omitting unnecessary services. Through our API, we served customer-facing tools, print publishing, and 3rd parties like DMS providers and e-commerce platforms. A mobile-responsive and SEO-centric web UI allows any owner easy access to needed information.
